Fort Lauderdale: Layoffs: Broward School District - More Teachers Face the Axe

layoffTeaching is a hard enough job, and it used to be a secure one. As evidence we have word of another pending layoff for teachers, this time in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Broward School District reports today that they will layoff as many as 400 teachers. Los Angeles Unified School District Approves Layoffs - 9000 Affected

In a move that should be unthinkable in an increasingly competitive global economy that is only going to get tighter, the Los Angeles Board of eduction is considering releasing teachers and staff to combat dire fiscal crisis affecting the state and the nation as a whole. The decision to layoff roughly 2000 elementary school teachers, 3500 nontenured teachers, and 3500 district and classroom support staffed will be made in the face of enormous protest by the teacher’s union.
